Xandra L. Gibson, 86, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Cairo, Illinois, died at 3:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at her home.
She was born Jan. 27, 1931, in Cairo to Robert and Audrey Edwards Lentz. She married Robert H. Gibson on Jan. 2, 1950. He preceded her in death Jan. 27, 1993.
Xandra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be remembered for her class and style. She and Bob loved to dance. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Parish in Cairo, where she participated in the choir.
She retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid after nearly 40 years of service. After retirement, she volunteered with the Cairo Historical Society at Magnolia Manor, as well as the Custom House Museum. She also was active with the American Red Cross.
She is survived by two sons, David Gibson (Penny George) of Vienna, Illinois, and Timothy (Stephanie) Gibson of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, Kevin (Mandy) Gibson of Goreville, Illinois, and Daniel (Courtney) Johnston of Evansville, Indiana; her great-grandchildren, Emma Poole, Kaden Gibson, Haley and Archer Johnston, and Logan and Steven Gibson; daughter-in-law, Karen Gibson of Clarksville, Tennessee; a sister, Dianne Wham (Richard) of Henderson, Kentucky; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Michael R. Gibson; and a brother, Robert K. Lentz.
Family and friends may gather from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo.
Funeral Mass for Xandra L. Gibson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Saint Francis Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church.
