PUXICO, Mo. -- W.W. "Bill" King, 79, of Puxico died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Puxico Nursing Center.

He was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Clarkton, Mo., son of William G. and Hazel Leona Phelps King. He and Juanita Cookson were married Sept. 3, 1948, in Piggott, Ark.

King was a truck driver 30 years at Valley Steel Co. in St. Louis, was a welding instructor 10 years with Poplar Bluff School District in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and was a substitute welding instructor at Mingo Job Corps. He was a member of Brown General Baptist Church and Puxico Masonic Lodge AF&AM.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jim King of Poplar Bluff, Steve King of Clarksville, Ohio, Randy King of Puxico; a daughter, Judy Corwin of Eldon, Mo.; two brothers, Gail King Jr. of Jackson, Don King of Bellflower, Mo.; two sisters, Bernice Allen of Rogersville, Ark., Midge Lafferty of Bloomfield, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico after 5 p.m. Sunday. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Johnny Buttry officiating. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery with full military honors.
