BERTRAND -- Funeral service for Winford J. Watson of Marissa, Ill., was held Monday at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa. The Rev. Ronald Chasteen officiated, with burial in Marissa Cemetery.

Watson, 72, died Friday, April 7, 1995, at Maria Care Nursing Home in Marissa.

He was born Jan. 26, 1923, at Bertrand, son of Virgil G. and Ora Speck Watson. He married the former Marie Heisserer.

Watson was a former truck driver and former Marissa chief of police.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William Watson of Marissa; a daughter, Juanita Doolittle of Marissa; a brother, Harold Watson of Collinsville, Ill.; three sisters, Dortha Patterson of St. Louis, Margie Blankenship of Chaffee, Martha Johnston of Scott City, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
