Wilver Wessel
Wilver W. Wessel, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 14, 1919, in Cape Girardeau to August and Emma Suedekum Wessel. He and Dolores Holland were married on Aug. 21, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. She died May 8, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed by the U. S. Postal Service as a postmaster in Cape Girardeau for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday school superintendant, an usher and on several boards at the church. He was a member of the Copper Dome Society at Southeast Missouri University and a member of the Southeast Missouri Hospital Association.
He is survived by a sister, Fern Statler of Jackson; and two nephews, Keith Statler of Charlotte, N.C., and Brian Statler of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Bruce Gregory Wessell.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home, with pastor Douglas Briete officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church at 100 N. Frederick St. in Cape Girardeau or Saxony Lutheran High School at 2004 Saxony Drive in Jackson.
