KARNAK, Ill. -- Willis "Doc" Briley, 87, of Karnak and formerly of Metropolis died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the Sunnyhill Care Center at Joliet.
He was born May 12, 1912, at Karnak, son of Sam and Minnie Haven Briley. He was married to Mayselle Upton.
Briley was a retired correctional officer from the Joliet Correctional Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church at Metropolis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also owned Doc's Cafe at Karnak.
Survivors include two sons, Lonnie Briley of Lockport and Morgan Briley of Morris; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral Home at Karnak.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Kenneth Sharp will officiate, with burial to follow at the Anderson Cemetery at Boaz.
