EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for William Henderson Winchester Jr. of East Prairie will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie.

The Rev. Clinton Wofford will officiate and a eulogy will be given by George Simmons of Charleston. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery near Charleston.

Mr. Winchester died Wednesday, April 3, at his home in East Prairie after an extended illness. He was 66.

He was born Nov. 6, 1924 at Commerce, the son of Lillian A. Anderson Winchester and the late W.H. Winchester Sr.

He lived in East Prairie the past 42 years, where he formerly owned and operated Winchester Chevrolet.

He was a member of the Nelson Memorial Methodist Church in East Prairie and the Charleston Masonic Lodge No. 407. He also is the past president and board member of the East Prairie School District Board of Education and past presiding judge and member of the Mississippi County Commission.

He was an "Honorable Colonel" of former Missouri Governor Warren E. Hearnes and served in World War II as a member of the U.S. Air Force.

Other survivors include his wife, Joan Brown Winchester of the home; three sons, Hense Winchester of Sikeston, and Jim and Steven Winchester, both of East Prairie; a daughter, Lisa B. Miller of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Luther Winchester of Charleston; a sister, Ann W. Waggener of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
