COBDEN, Ill. -- William W. "Bill" Fry of Cobden died Friday, April 11, 1997, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was 71.
He was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Vandalia, Mo., the son of Harlan Lee and Anna Hutchison Fry. He married Evelyn Deming on Aug. 12, 1974, in Kankakee, Ill. She survives.
He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Cobden, the Cobden American Legion Post 259 and the Anna VFW Post 3455. He worked as an administrative assistant at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale until retirement.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Schmit of Chesapeake, Va.; two stepsons, Jack and John Hankla, both of Cobden; two stepdaughters, Lisa Newton of Springfield and Elizabeth Minton of Belleville; four brothers, Wayne and Lee Fry, both of Sterling, Don Fry of Omaha, Neb., and Elmer Fry of Windermere, Fla.; a sister, Corrine Canon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Mixen officiating. Interment will follow in the Cobden Cemetery, with full military honors by the Cobden American Legion and the Anna VFW Post.
