ORAN, Mo. -- William Dallas Shaffer, 85, of Oran passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Gideon, Mo., to the late Claude Dallas and Tressie Mae Petty Shaffer. William was a corporal in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. ORAN, Mo. -- William Dallas Shaffer, 85, of Oran passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Gideon, Mo., to the late Claude Dallas and Tressie Mae Petty Shaffer.

William was a corporal in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a retired laborer for Labor Union 1104. Dallas was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include six nephews, Steve Nesler, Brian Shaffer, Lloyd Shaffer Jr., Jim, Keith and Terry Eftink; six nieces, Debi Oliver, Beverly Mirgeaux, Nancy Morris, Brenda White, Heather Eledge and Jamie Phenix.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military honors presented by the Missouri Honor Guard.
