FARRAR -- William R. Spies, 70, of Farrar died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 9, 1922, in St. Louis, the son of William and Augusta Dvorak Spies. On July 21, 1943, he married Carole Weiss, who preceded him in death April 14, 1988. FARRAR -- William R. Spies, 70, of Farrar died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 9, 1922, in St. Louis, the son of William and Augusta Dvorak Spies. On July 21, 1943, he married Carole Weiss, who preceded him in death April 14, 1988. He then married Elvira Lorenz on March 31, 1989. She survives of the home.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar, the American Legion Post #133 in Perryville, C.C.C., and he was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army. He also was a former Boy Scout leader.

Other survivors include three sons, James Spies of St. Louis, Thomas Spies of Parkville, Md. and William R. Spies of Kansas City; a daughter, Shelley Ripplinger of St. Louis; two step-sons, Ronald and Terry Lorenz both of Farrar, a step-daughter, Connie Miesner of Frohna; seven grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a step-granddaughter.

Friends may call from 8-10 a.m. today at Salem Lutheran Church at Farrar, where funeral service will be at 10. The body then will be taken to Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary on Chippewa in St. Louis for visitation Friday evening.

Burial will be Saturday in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis. Young and Sons Funeral Home in Frohna is charge of the local arrangements.
