William E. "Bill" Pobst, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Oran, Mo., son of Joseph and Lucille Amrhein Pobst.
Pobst worked on the river as a licensed tankerman with Southern Towing Co. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
He was a sergeant first class with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and also served with Missouri National Guard.
Survivors include a son, Mark Pobst of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Sarah Zembsch of Cape Girardeau, Myra Strasberg of St. Petersburg, Fla., Carla Tedrow of Winter Park, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
There is no visitation.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Full military honors will be conducted.
Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
