SCOTT CITY -- William Eldridge Hillman, 81, of Scott City died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 21, 1917, at Atlas, Ill., son of William and Zelma Baker Hillman.

On May 9, 1939, he married Rosalie Theresea Burger at Kelso. She survives.

He was a mechanic and owned and operated Hillman's Garage in Scott City for 36 years. He also farmed and drove a school bus for 26 1/2 years for Scott City schools. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy.

He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. He was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School in Illinois and a 1937 graduate of Ranken Trade School in St. Louis.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jerald and Stephen Hillman, both of Scott City, Patrick Hillman of Cape Girardeau, Dale Hillman of Hannibal; six daughters, Elaine Rauk of Kenyon, Minn., Delores Ketcherside of St. Peters, Clara Batye of Webster Groves, Eva Richards of Benton, Mary Sherman of St. Charles and Lea Jane Hillman of Scott City; a brother, Robert Hillman of Phoenix, Ariz.; 30 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Three sons, a daughter, sister and grandson preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City, with a Knights of Columbus service at 4 and parish prayers at 7.

Funeral wil be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating.
