COLUMBIA, Mo. -- William Scott Gibbs, 23, of Columbia, formerly of Jackson, was reunited with his Father in Heaven Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022.

His friends and family affectionately called him "Willie". "Wilma" or "Willis" were playful nicknames he enjoyed.

Willie was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. His heart was big, and those close to him knew he felt deeply. Willie suffered from anxiety, depression and addiction. He fought and lost his tragic battle with these afflictions, and all who knew him are heartbroken.

Willie could have a conversation with anyone and bonded immediately with many. He was curious, thoughtful, sensitive and sweet. He loved immensely and listened closely. He was particular, observant, methodical and intentional with whatever he put his mind to. His search to understand life was apparent to everyone he met. He wasn't afraid to ask questions and strove to understand how the world worked, how and where to explore and how to get the most out of life.

Playing with his young nieces and nephew always transformed "Unkie Willie" and provided moments of peace and joy. Willie struggled to understand others' love for him, but their love and laughter never failed to put a smile on his face.

His signature long, curly hair was a source of pride and entertainment. Lucky family and friends were allowed to braid, straighten and style it. It was irresistible, and often he got a quick floof in passing. He loved hiking, nature, skateboarding and skiing. He could always be found on the dance floor busting a funky move and enjoyed supporting his creative friends, as music and art brought him great joy. He liked to cook and enjoyed chocolate-covered strawberries and a good steak. Animals held a special place in his heart, and his dogs were always by his side, or in his pocket, where snuggly little Chachi could be found.
