BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- William Downen, 96, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomfield.

He was born Feb. 6, 1909, in Monette, Ark., son of Charlie and Elsie Brown Downen. He was a member of St. Joe General Baptist Church in Idalia, Mo., and was a self-employed farmer and carpenter.

He and Ruby M. French were married Oct. 28, 1934, at Hunterville, Mo. She died June 11, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Ronald D. Hahn of Scott City; two grandchildren; and two-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Bloomfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Ron Dunavin officiating.
