COBDEN, Ill. -- William Glynn Caraker, 77, of Cobden died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro.

He was born April 8, 1919, in Cobden, son of Melvin and Beatrix Condon Caraker. He and Kenneth L. Sitter were married July 4, 1940, in Jackson, Mo.

Caraker was a postmaster at Cobden many years. He was a member of the Congregational Church, Cobden American Legion Post 259, Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna, and Cobden Odd Fellows Lodge. He was a former president of Illinois National League of Postmasters.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glynda Ryan of Marion; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Ryman officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery, with graveside rites by American Legion Post 259 and VFW Post 3455.
