William Hugh Burkhimer, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Dec. 27, 1917, in Altoona, Pa., son of William Snider and Grace Anna Wogan Burkhimer.
He and Virginia Sue McMillan were married Aug. 2, 1944, at Tulare, Calif. She preceded him in death on June 3, 2002.
Burkhimer served as a glider pilot in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in New Guinea and Australia. He was later a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon and served on the building committee.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Sue Hudson of Collierville, Tenn., and Patricia Ann Hill of Thebes, Ill.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Kabo Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church.
