William Marion Bollinger, 98, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 16, 1902, at Marble Hill, Mo., son of John William and Minnie Proffer Bollinger. He and Violet Anna Krogmann were married Jan. 6, 1927, at Marble Hill. She preceded him in death Jan. 28, 1996.
Bollinger was in the dry cleaning business for over 50 years. He and his brother, Ikey, established Crescent Cleaners on South Sprigg Street. Then they opened Courtesy Cleaners on Broadway and operated it until it was sold to the Estes brothers. He bought it back with Mrs. Raines in 1980 and operated it until September 1985 when he retired. When younger, he managed basketball, baseball and bowling teams. He was a member of the Cape Pilot's Club, a charter member of Kimbeland Country Club and the Mississippi Seniors Golf Association. He celebrated his 90th birthday flying.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Burgess of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Truman Bollinger of Cape Girardeau, Charles Bollinger of Marble Hill, Carl Bollinger of Richmond, Va., and Dick Bollinger of Marble Hill; four sisters, Connie Mayfield, Belva Banta, Hazel Hutson and Mary Hansen, all of Marble Hill; three granddaughters, Stacy and husband Andy Camp of Scott City, Mo., Jill Burchyett of Cape Girardeau, and Becky and husband Greg Davidson of Cape Girardeau; seven great-grandchildren, Andy, Rafe and Jesse Camp of Scott City, Megan, Rachel, Emmalea and Jacob Burchyett of Cape Girardeau; a business partner, Bernice Raines of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry William Bollinger in 1951; and two brothers, Ikey and Flossie Bollinger.
Friends may call at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Revs. Anselm Williams and Jerry Statler will officiate, with burial in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or Grace United Methodist Church.
