SIKESTON, Mo. -- William E. Ashby, 68, of Sikeston died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Centerville, Iowa, son of Raymond Ashby and Rosa Sells Ashby Wright. He and Bernice Goines were married July 5, 1973, in Morehouse, Mo...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- William E. Ashby, 68, of Sikeston died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Centerville, Iowa, son of Raymond Ashby and Rosa Sells Ashby Wright. He and Bernice Goines were married July 5, 1973, in Morehouse, Mo.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He moved to Sikeston in 1973 from Davenport, Iowa. He was a printer and supervisor for 15 years with C.B. Forms in East Prairie, Mo. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morehouse.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dan Ashby of Davenport, Iowa, Arlen Hobbs of Kennett, Mo., and John Tinsley of Sikeston; three daughters, Donna Tilley of Sikeston, Charlotte Haertjens of Stewart, Fla., and Sherry Murphy of Moline, Ill.; four brothers, Ernest Ashby of Davenport, Russell Ashby of Lowden, Iowa, Donald Wright of Thorton, Colo., and Johnny Wright Jr. of Davenport; two sisters, Rosamary Schwerdtfeger of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Dorothy Dreher of Cadillac, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a stepfather and a granddaughter.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
