ALTENBURG -- Willard L. Steffens of Altenburg died Monday, May 11, 1998, at his home. He was 78.
He was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Altenburg, son of Rudy R. and Lydia Pilz Steffens. They preceded him in death.
He married Amanda C. Detjen May 11, 1947. She survives.
He was part-owner and operator of Steffens Orchard. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.
Also surviving are a son, James Steffens of Perryville; three daughters, Vickie Goetz of Chaffee, Janice Meyr of New Wells and Christine Schlichting of Altenburg; four brothers, Leo Steffens and Herb Steffens, both of Altenburg, and Ray Steffens and Floyd Steffens, both of St. Louis; a sister, Eileen Gerler of Altenburg; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and grandson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Wednesday at Young & Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg, with the Rev. Charles Weber officiating.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
