FARRAR -- Wilhelm G. "William" Kassel, 86, of Farrar died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Perry Oaks Healthcare. He was born Jan. 27, 1911, in Perry County, son of Phillip and Clara M. Hopfer Kassel. FARRAR -- Wilhelm G. "William" Kassel, 86, of Farrar died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Perry Oaks Healthcare.

He was born Jan. 27, 1911, in Perry County, son of Phillip and Clara M. Hopfer Kassel. He and Wilma Roth were married May 9, 1937.

Kassel was a farmer. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and School Board.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Erwin Kassel of Farrar, Melvin Kassel of St. Charles, Roy Kassel of Carpenter, S.D.; a daughter, Gladys Reid of Jackson; two sisters, Marie Grove and Ida Bitsch of St. Louis; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and a brother.

Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville from 5-9 p.m. today, and Wednesday from 6:30-8 a.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Church, with the Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
