He was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Perry County, Mo., son of Charles and Victoria Winkler Ponder.
Ponder was a farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish at Apple Creek and the Men's Sodality. He was also a Third Degree Knight of Columbus.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas Ponder of Cape Girardeau, and Adrian Ponder of St. Louis; and a sister, Bernetta R. Henderson, of St. Ann, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday and from 6:30-9:30 a.m. at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. A parish wake will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Apple Creek, Mo., with the Rev. Mark Bozada officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at Apple Creek.
