PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Wilberta Teresa Rose Bohnert Ernst passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019.

Born in Apple Creek, Missouri, Sept. 6, 1929, she was the youngest of 15 children of Henry and Julia Bohnert.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Weldon Joseph Ernst, and an infant son, Von James Ernst.

She is survived by her sister, Bernice Gotto; sons, Terry (Helena) Ernst and Warren (Mirna) Ernst; daughters, Suzette (Wally) Schilling and Vickie (Doug) Epley; grandchildren, Michael Steimle, Kenny Steimle, Sarah Tillman, Matthew Ernst, Alex Landero, Jamie Schilling, Angela Schupp, Nathan Schilling, Tyson Schilling, Emma Epley and Samuel Epley; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Affectionately known as "Birdie" to all, she was well known for her devout faith, strong family bond, kindness and cooking that fed countless meals for many. She was known far and wide for her German chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls and Christmas candy.

Resting in the arms of Jesus, Birdie's light burned bright 90 years and will offer treasured memories to her family, friends and parish community.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Young Funeral Home in Perryville. Visitation will continue from 6:30 to 9:15 a.m., with a rosary at 8:30, Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Maurus Catholic Church.
