MARBLE HILL -- Funeral service for Weldon B. Shanks of Marble Hill will be held at 2 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. The Rev. Elijah Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Baker Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 5900 of Marble Hill.
Shanks, 62, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 1994, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born March 17, 1932, near Marble Hill, son of Marvin and Ruby Leadbetter Shanks.
Shanks was a retired millwright with LaClede Steel Co. He was a member of VFW Post 7678 in Cottage Hills, Ill.; National Rifle Association; Franklin Masonic Lodge 25 of Alton, Ill., and United Steel Workers Union. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Seets of Casa Grande, Ariz., Lena Payne and Pam Bollinger of Marble Hill; three brothers, Roscoe and Rev. Frank Shanks of Marble Hill, L.J. Shanks of North Augusta, S.C.; four sisters, Almeta Baker and Verona Wilder of Marble Hill, Lou Mazzarella and Marybeth Grant of Wood River, Ill.; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.
