MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Warren Jefferson Thomas, 80, of Marble Hill died Monday, May 28, 2001, at his residence. He was born Jan. 1, 1921, at Grassy, Mo., son of Charley and Leola Bess Thomas. He and Mary Modean Shetley were married Sept. 23, 1939. Thomas had worked as Marble Hill postmaster for 30 years until his retirement in the early 1980s. ...

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Warren Jefferson Thomas, 80, of Marble Hill died Monday, May 28, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 1, 1921, at Grassy, Mo., son of Charley and Leola Bess Thomas. He and Mary Modean Shetley were married Sept. 23, 1939.

Thomas had worked as Marble Hill postmaster for 30 years until his retirement in the early 1980s. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942-45. He was a member of Marble Hill Methodist Church and participated in the church choir. Thomas enjoyed gardening, as well as hunting squirrel and turkey.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Myers of Marble Hill; three sisters, Anna Lee Hopkins of Cottage Hills, Ill., Nadine Phillips of Hartford, Ill., and Eula Pape of Zalma, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Michael Woods will officiate, with burial in Bollinger County Memorial Park.
