PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Walter Joseph Schumer, 96, of Perryville, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 13, 1911, at Biehle, Mo., son of Henry and Barbara Lohmann Schumer. He and Dorothea M. Hoerning Schumer were married April 19, 1952, at Biehle, and she preceded him in death Nov. 1, 2007.
Schumer was a farmer. He was a member of St. Maurus Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Schumer and Harold (Belenda) Schumer, all of Perryville; four daughters, Charlotte (Jerry) Welker of Cape Girardeau, Louis (Jim) Hurtle of Hebron, Ky.; Phyllis (Ken) Dunn of St. Louis and Monica (Phil) Noll of Los Alamos, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters, Josephine Schumer, Carrie Schumer, Jettie Schumer, Mary Schumer, Emma Zoellner, Lydia Berkbigler and Irene Wehrle; and two brothers, Arthur Schumer and Hervey Schumer.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. A parish wake service will be at 5 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle. The Revs. Alphonse Hooernihg and Tommy Dattilo will officiate, with burial in St. Maurus Church Cemetery in Biehle.
