Walter George Phillips, 96, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Sept. 9, 1903, in Cape Girardeau County, son of Gustav and Anna Meyer Phillips. He and Virginia Heise were married Dec. 26, 1926, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 9, 1991.
He attended Randol, Coker and Hanover Lutheran schools and was a graduate of Central High School.
Phillips farmed many years and was head of Cape County farm programs 22 years. He was an auctioneer 50 years and was an agent with Lutheran Mutual Insurance 22 years.
He was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church and held various offices.
Survivors include three sons, Gene, Harold and Ralph Phillips of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Viola Bock of Advance; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and a grandson.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Sippy officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
