PERKS, Ill. -- Walter Oaks, 106, of Perks died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Meridian Manor Nursing Home in Mounds. He was born Oct. 24, 1891, in Black Rock, Ark., son of Pat and Mariah Oaks. He and his wife Lula were married Dec. 25, 1913. She died April 3, 1970...

PERKS, Ill. -- Walter Oaks, 106, of Perks died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Meridian Manor Nursing Home in Mounds.

He was born Oct. 24, 1891, in Black Rock, Ark., son of Pat and Mariah Oaks. He and his wife Lula were married Dec. 25, 1913. She died April 3, 1970.

Oaks was a member of the Church of Christ at Mounds.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Imerson of Perks; two sons, Stanford Oaks of Champaign, William Oaks of Kansas City, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Side Cemetery in Ullin.

Crain Funeral Home at Ullin is in charge of arrangements.
