DEXTER, Mo. -- Walter H. Johnson, 73, of Dexter died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 12, 1929, in Flint, Mich., son of Harry Marshall and Lorene Stevens Johnson. He and Glenda Milton were married Feb. 24, 1951, at Dexter.

Johnson lived in the Dexter area all his life. He was a retired city mail carrier. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served in various capacities, and was a volunteer with the Boy Scout program 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Johnson of Dexter, Daniel Johnson of Jackson; two sisters, Marlene Winstead of Dexter, Joyce Brents of Essex, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Friends may call at First Baptist Church after 4 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at the church, with the Revs. Don Kennedy and Mike Watkins officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dexter Cemetery.

Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
