CAIRO, Ill. -- Walter F. Johnson, 84, of Cairo died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Daystar Care Center. He was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Ballard County, Ky. CAIRO, Ill. -- Walter F. Johnson, 84, of Cairo died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Daystar Care Center.

He was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Ballard County, Ky.

Johnson retired as owner of Johnson Transport Co. in Cairo and also retired from Barkett funeral homes in Cairo, Mounds and Mound City. He was a former deputy coroner in Alexander County.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Ruth Carolyn Ashworth of Cairo; a brother, Earl Johnson of Reidland, Ky.; and a granddaughter.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
