PERRYVILLE -- Waldo E. Rhodes Sr., 80, of Perryville, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 20, 1917, in Claryville, Mo., son of Edward and Philomene Schulte Rhodes. On Dec. 28, 1943, he married Leona Probst in Perryville.

He was an army veteran of World War II and worked until retirement as a rural mail carrier. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sereno, Retired Rural Mail Carriers, the American Legion Post 133, VFW #4282, Disabled American Veterans, National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1237, AARP, SV Alumni Association and the Laryngectomy Club.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Roger and Larry Rhodes, both of Perryville, and Waldo "Eddie" Rhodes Jr. of Midland, Mich.; five daughters, Carol Rhodes and Diane Klaus, both of Perryville, Mary Werner of Frohna, JoAnn Rhodes of Fulton and Barb Bey of Prosper, Texas; two brothers, Edward Rhodes of Florissant and Eugene Rhodes of Perryville; and one sister, Ruth Kaiser of Perryville; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Friends may call at Young & Sons Chapel today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 6:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Parish wake will be held tonight at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 7 p.m., followed by a VFW wake at 7:30 p.m.

Mass will follow at the church at 10 a.m., the Rev. Francis Agnew officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
