Virginia Schobey, 88, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 3, 1932, in Cape Girardeau to Garner Reid and Virginia Yates Daugherty. She married Francis Schobey on Feb. 5, 1977. He passed away April 15, 1999. During their married life, they made and sold many wood crafts, traveling throughout the area to various craft venues.
Virginia was also employed for several years in the laundry department at Lutheran Home, retiring in 2005.
She enjoyed gardening, reading and her most favorite TV game show "Jeopardy!" She was also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She will forever be remembered for her love and compassion for animals of all kinds. Throughout her life, she had many beloved pets, particularly dogs and cats.
She is survived by her daughters, Dixie Crites of Jackson and Deanna Ware of Gordonville; and grandchildren, Courtney (Kelly) Peterson of Aurora, Colorado, Kaitlin (Andrew) Crites of Grapevine, Texas, Kacie (Peyton) Sims of Denver and Rachel Ware and Matt Ware, both of Cape Girardeau. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Lake Peterson of Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, David Niemann; son, Danny Niemann in 2014; and son-in-law, John Alan Crites in 2016. She was also preceded in death by four half siblings.
A private graveside service will be conducted today at Lorimier Cemetery.
The family will have a public memorial service later this summer.
