OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Virginia Sue Porter, 77, of Olive Branch died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born April 17, 1935, in Mound City, Ill., to William and Mary Mahan Garrett. She and Freddie Porter were married Dec. 15, 1951. He preceded her in death May 21, 1986...

OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Virginia Sue Porter, 77, of Olive Branch died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 17, 1935, in Mound City, Ill., to William and Mary Mahan Garrett. She and Freddie Porter were married Dec. 15, 1951. He preceded her in death May 21, 1986.

Sue worked at Choate Mental Health and Development Center in Anna, Ill. She was a member of the AFSCME Union.

Survivors include a daughter, Vicki (Mark) Woodney of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Roger Porter of Granite City, Ill., and Timothy Porter of Olive Branch; a granddaughter, Samantha Mounce of Wood River, Ill.; a great-granddaughter, Shelby Mounce of Wood River; four brothers, Charles Garrett of Villa Ridge, Ill., William Garrett of Nashville, Tenn., Harold Garrett of Columbia, Mo., and David Garrett of Olathe, Colo.; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepfather, Frank Brooks; and two sisters, Velva Hale and Linda Young.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
