CAIRO, Ill. -- Virginia Khourie, 91, of Cairo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
She was born May 23, 1923, in Fulton, Kentucky, daughter of Alexander M. and Tamam Lily Khourie. She and Fred Khourie of Cairo were married Feb. 20, 1947.
From that union came three children, Fred W. Khourie of the home, Michael L. (Barbara) Khourie of Mounds, Illinois, and Kimberly A. Khourie Potts (Louis) of Mounds.
Virginia lived to love her Lord and her family. She delighted in working at their popular store, Khourie Brothers in downtown Cairo. She was baptized Oct. 30, 1957, at Cairo Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a deaconess, member of the advisory board and as a church hostess along with her sister-in-law, Lorraine Elias.
Survivors include three children, Fred, Mike and Kim; seven grandchildren, Glen Mike, Carol Lee, Jason, Ashley, Lindsey, Micah and Collin; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Ernest and Edmond; and sisters Mercedes Engle and Mozelle Khourie.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at her beloved church, Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center in Cairo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Virginia's pastor of 55 years, Dr. Larry L. Potts, will officiate. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, Illinois.
Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
