SIKESTON, Mo. -- Virginia L. Gremore, 87, of Sikeston died July 15, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Oct. 12, 1925, in Fruitland to the late William Paul and Blanche Morton McDowell, she retired from Southwestern Bell where she was a telephone operator and a lifetime member of the "Pioneers" of Southwestern Bell.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Sikeston.

On Aug. 26, 1961, in Winona, Mo., she married Harold Gremore, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one stepson, Robert Gremore of Portageville, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Shirley Simmons of Rector, Ark., and Joan Campbell of Sikeston; one sister, Marilyn Bollinger of Jackson; and one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Vicky McDowell of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry McDowell; and two sisters, Pauline DaVault and Phyllis Williams.

Funeral services were held July 17 at the First Christian Church in Sikeston, with the Rev. Brice Hughes officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel of Sikeston was in charge of arrangements.
