MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Virgil Welker, 89, of Marble Hill passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Advance, Missouri, son of Barney and Mae Devenport Welker. He and Nadine Garland were united in marriage Sept. 18, 1943.
Virgil was a saw miller all his life. He loved working with horses, playing bluegrass music and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Welker; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Welker; daughters, Thelma (Doug) Miles and Doris Bailey, both of Marble Hill; sister, Iva Padgett of Marble Hill; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Woodrow; brothers, Von and Leroy; sisters, Adell Garland and Madine Atchison; and five infant siblings, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Fulbright and Jimmy Miles officiating. Burial will be in Hurricane Fork Cemetery near Marble Hill.
