Funeral service for Virgil A. Edwards of Caruthersville was held Dec. 6 at First Presbyterian Church there. The Rev. Paul Currie officiated, with burial in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens there.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edwards, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Monette, Ark., son of Allen Kirkwood Edwards and Bell Shoulders Edwards. He and Wilma Alberta Basham were married April 14, 1946, in New Madrid.

Edwards was a sales representative many years with Elfrink Truck Lines. He was a member and past elder of First Presbyterian Church, member of American Legion Post 88, Gideons International, and past member of Caruthersville Kiwanis Club.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-45, receiving four Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Allen Edwards of Majestic, Ky., John Edwards of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Shirley Wauer of Belleville, Mich., Barbara Pearson of West Olive, Mich., Cheryl Campbell of Millington, Tenn.; a stepson, Edward Wadley of Nashville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
