Virgie Shackles

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Veronica Cecelia "Virgie" Shackles, 94, of Chaffee died Friday, July 22, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 17, 1911, in Charleston, Mo., daughter of George Washington and Catherine Mary Scheffer Griffin. She and John Albert Shackles were married Jan. 19, 1932. He died Dec. 17, 1994.

Shackles had been a nurse aide at old St. Francis Hospital, and a cook at Chaffee General Hospital and Southeast Missouri State University. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Daughters of St. Ambrose.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Shackles of Whitewater, Kenneth Shackles of Cape Girardeau; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. Sunday. The rosary will be recited at 7.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Church, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.
