PERRYVILLE -- Virgie M. Reiss, 87, of Perryville died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Chester, Ill.
She was born Nov. 7, 1911, at Menfro, daughter of Clem Sylvester and Bernadette Mattingly Gibbar. She and Martin C. Reiss were married April 4, 1932. He died Feb. 6, 1980.
Reiss was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and Ladies Sodality at Sereno, and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include five sons, Martin and Norman Reiss of Perryville, Donald Reiss of Farmington, Harold Reiss of Red Bud, Ill., Dale Reiss of Denver, Colo.; five daughters, Shirley Tarrillion of West Palm Beach, Fla., Dorothy Smith of Valparaiso, Ind., Theresa Sutterer, Doris Dauster and June Moore of Perryville.
Also surviving is a stepsister, Dorothy Moore of Perryville; a stepbrother, Clem Gibbar of Louisiana; 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, three brothers, a sister, a stepbrother, and three stepsisters.
Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Wednesday from 6:30 a.m.-1:50 p.m. The parish and Daughters of Isabella wake will be at 7 tonight.
Funeral Mass will be at 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady Church, with the Rev. Francis Agnew officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
