Viola Wittrock Medley, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born May 26, 1911, at Templin, Kan., daughter of the Rev. William and Ella Marie Zwieg Wittrock Sr. She and Edward F. Medley were married in 1967. He died Jan. 31, 1978.
She graduated from Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1944 with a bachelor of science degree. In 1961, she earned her master's degree in education.
She taught at Hanover School from 1926 to 1955. She then taught at Jackson Junior High until her retirement in 1973.
She was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church. She was active in the Aid Association for Lutherans, serving as secretary-treasurer for 50 years. She was also active as a Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible School teacher at Hanover Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a brother, the Rev. Ted Wittrock of the Bronx, N. Y., and a sister, Paula Wittock Weiss of Cape Girardeau.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hanover Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jeffrey Sippy will officiate, with burial in the Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery.
