Vilet A. Robert, 86, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, surrounded by family.
She was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Point Rest, Missouri, to Elmer Edmund Buerck and Clara Helen Laurentius Ruesler.
Vilet was raised in Biehle, Missouri. She and Melvin Robert married Nov. 8, 1958. In 2017, they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Together, they were loving parents to three children and were blessed with five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Annunciation parish and was actively involved in the St. Mary's Cathedral Ladies Sodality.
Vilet was known for her many acts of kindness. Her generosity to those who were in no position to return her selfless favors demonstrated she was a faithful servant. Known for her delicious cooking and baking from scratch, she spent countless hours volunteering at bereavement dinners and cooking for friends in need.
Possessing a true servant's heart, Vilet shared her talent of sewing beautiful wedding gowns and dresses for her family and friends. With a real zest for life, she especially enjoyed card games and get-togethers with family, especially her grandchildren. She was the heart of her family.
Loving survivors include her husband; a daughter, Michelle (Greg) Hesselrode of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Bruce (Alecia) Robert and Michael (Susan) Robert of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Ashten and Garrett Hesselrode and Joshua, Tanner and Braedyn Robert; stepgrandchildren, Jessica Smith and Kayla and Amanda Lawrence; stepgreat-grandchildren, Trysten Lawrence and Nathan and Nadine Smith; a sister, Anna (Earl) Martin; a brother, Kenneth (Ida) Buerck; a stepsister, Viola (Oscar) Pruesser; and a stepbrother, Richard (Kathleen) Ruesler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Thelma (Wilbert) Clements and Margery (Bernard) Winschel; and a stepsister, Doris Ruesler.
Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m., followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Annunciation in Cape Girardeau. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
