VESTA SORRELS

ANNA, Ill. -- Funeral for Vesta Wright Sorrels of Anna will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna. The Rev. Larry Shacklee will officiate, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery at Lick Creek.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8:30 p.m. today.

Sorrels, 92, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin.

She was born Jan. 14, 1906, in Pleasant Ridge, daughter of Frank and Lillie Mae Johnson Miller. She and Audie Wright were married in 1922 in Detroit, Mich. He died in 1971. She later married Francis Sorrels in 1977, who died in 1988.

Sorrels was a cook at Sunshine Inn from 1977 until retiring in 1979. She had also been a cook at Illinois youth camps and at the Iron Kettle Restaurant.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters, Ethelene Lyerla of Jonesboro, Nellie Dillow and Ramona Hays of Herrin; a son, Gene Wright of Anna; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a granddaughter, two stepsons, a sister, and four brothers.
