Vertie Marie Meyer, 90, of Jackson died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Monticello House.

She was born June 29, 1916, near Neelys Landing, daughter of J.W. and Eliza Craft Cotner. She and Alfred Meyer were married Nov. 7, 1931. He died Sept. 20, 2000.

Meyer was employed at the munitions plant in St. Louis during World War II. She later returned to Jackson where she worked at the former Jackson Hosiery Mill. She and her husband also owned and operated a farm for many years near Neelys Landing. Meyer was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Harvey Meyer of Clinton, Mo., Gene Meyer of Jackson; two daughters, Hazel Masterson and Brenda Reed of Jackson; a brother, Richard Cotner of Herculaneum, Mo.; a sister, Rosalie Ackman of Jackson; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Cheney officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
