MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Vernon Leon Smith, 83, of Marble Hill, formerly of Advance, Mo., passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Clara Deville Nursing Center in Fredericktown, Mo.
He was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Jackson, son of John William and Hattie Alberta Crader Smith. He and Dortha E. Riegert were married July 3, 1948, in Piggott, Ark.
Vernon was a farmer and member of Whitewater Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Dortha Smith; a son, Martin L. Smith of Fredericktown; a daughter, Kathryn Thal of Fredericktown; a brother, Kenneth C. Smith of Independence, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. David Conley officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
