FROHNA, Mo. -- Vernon G. Schlichting, 89, of Frohna (Wittenberg) died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Wittenberg, Missouri, son of Martin and Laura Fiehler Schlichting. He and Lucille Schuessler were married Oct. 8, 1950. She survives in Frohna.
Vernon was a farmer of both agriculture and livestock. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Missouri, National Farmers Organization, school board and church officer at St. Paul's in Wittenberg.
Survivors include four daughters and one son, Connie (Terry) Clampitt of Marion, Illinois, Eileen Schlichting of Cape Girardeau, Donna (Dennis) Hecht, Gary Schlichting and Eunice Schlichting, all of Frohna; one brother, Bernard Schlichting of Frohna; and brother-in-law, Hilmer (Neoma) Schuessler of Perryville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jason Hecht of Cape Girardeau, Matthew (Jessica) Hecht of Altenburg, Matthew (Chelsea) Clampitt of Marion and Jonathan Hecht of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Jacoby Hecht and Henry Clampitt. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna (Elmer) Lichtenegger and Mabel Guth; one brother, Otto (Martha) Schlichting; one sister-in-law, Arleen Schlichting; eight brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law, Erna (Henry) Hadler, Erwin (Erna) Schuessler, Edgar Schuessler, Elmer (Lorene) Schuessler, Melvin (Evelyn) Schuessler, Wilbert (Elsie) Schuessler, Vernold (Velma) Schuessler and Milton (Dixie) Schuessler. He also was preceded by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday at Young and Sons East Perry Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, with the Rev. Steven Dressler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military graveside service provided by the American Legion and the Missouri Honors Team.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg or Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
