Vernon H. Guth, 88, of Festus, Mo., formerly of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away quietly at his home Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008. He was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Raddle, Ill., son of Otto and Paula Fuehler Guth. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, the love of his life for 47 years; a sister, Wanda Eichkoff of Raleigh, N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, G.A. and Mary Sue Schaefer of Crystal City, Mo.; nieces and nephews...

Vernon H. Guth, 88, of Festus, Mo., formerly of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away quietly at his home Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.

He was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Raddle, Ill., son of Otto and Paula Fuehler Guth.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, the love of his life for 47 years; a sister, Wanda Eichkoff of Raleigh, N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, G.A. and Mary Sue Schaefer of Crystal City, Mo.; nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are three children, Margaret Pfeiffer of Jackson, Laverne (Jerry) Krauss of Perryville, Mo.; a son, Richard Guth of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Vernon was president and owner of Guth Bros. Block and Brick Co. of Cape Girardeau for 27 years. He sold the company in 1973 and retired. Then he and his wife, Jacqueline, fulfilled his dream of traveling full time all over the United States, Canada and Mexico in their Airstream trailer, finally settling in Southern Arizona many years.

Vernon was an avid golfer at Pueblo del Sol Country Club in Sierra Vista, enjoyed life and his two pug dogs, Lucy and Max. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Festus, and held a life membership in the Elks Club.

Private graveside service will be held in Jackson.

Mahn Funeral Home in Festus is in charge of arrangements.
