STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Vernon J. Bader Sr., 87, of Ste. Genevieve died Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, Missouri.

He was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Ste. Genevieve, son of Edward J. and Lena J. Roth Bader. He and Anna Mae Huber were married Feb. 11, 1953.

Vernon was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of VFW Post 2210 and Knights of Columbus 1037.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Bader of Ste. Genevieve; three sons, Francis (Aleshia) Bader of Scott City, Gerald "Duck" (Denise) Bader and Vernon (Dr. Terri Monahan) Bader Jr. of Ste. Genevieve; a daughter, Gail Ann (Randy) Vitale of St. Mary, Missouri; a brother, Leroy Bader of Ste. Genevieve; a sister-in-law, Lucille Bader of Ste. Genevieve; six grandchildren, Brandi (David) Schwartz, Nicholas (Stacey) Vitale, Wade Vitale (friend Ciarra), Jesse, Brett and Alina Bader; a great-grandchild, Braxton Schwartz; and baby Vitale due in July.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cletus and Glennon Bader; and two sisters-in-law, Armella and Ann Bader.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Ste. Genevieve. The Rev. Dennis Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Valle Spring Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve. Military graveside service will be conducted by VFW Post 2210.
