PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Verna H. Werner, 84, of Perryville died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Independence Care Center in Perryville.
She was born Sept. 25, 1926, at Frohna, Mo., daughter of Arthur and Magdalana Oberndorfer Kassel. She and Rudi Werner were married Aug. 10, 1946. He preceded her in death Aug. 30, 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Sue (Larry) Hogard; two sons, David M. (Sally) Werner, James D. Werner, all of St. Mary, Mo.; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; five siblings, Viola Kuecker and Eunice (John) Bernthol of St. Louis, Donald (Marge) Kassel of Lee's Summit, Mo., Dennis (Jane) Kassel of St. Mary, Donna (Richard) Meyer of Perryville; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Kassel of St. Louis.
Mrs. Werner was a bookkeeper at Werner Auto Body, cook at Park-Et and custodian at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, church volunteer at Perry County Nursing Home, Chancel Guild, Berean Bible Study and Wednesday morning Bible breakfast.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a great-grandchild; a sister, Lorene (Ted) Koepke; a brother, Harry Kassel; and a brother-in-law, Ray Kuecker.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Matthew Marks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran School Building Fund.
