Verna Lee Landis, 100, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
She was born June 12, 1900, in Alton, Mo., daughter of James and Nora Anderson Landis. She moved to Cape Girardeau as a small child.
She worked in the bookkeeping department at Sturdivant Bank, and in 1928 she was appointed deputy city clerk. In July 1947, she was appointed city clerk, and she retired in 1985.
She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, the Executive Club, the Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary and the Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include three cousins, Wilma Neal of Cape Girardeau, Helen Deal of Sikeston, Mo., and Mike Clippard of Dexter, Mo.
She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lorimier Cemetery. The Rev. James Sanderson and the Rev. Clayton Smith will officiate.
