Verna Madean Cordia, 69, of Oak Ridge died Sunday, May 31, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 12, 1950, in Cape Girardeau to Henry and Minnie B. Mungle Underwood. She and James M. Cordia were married Jan. 31, 1974, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death March 28, 2017.
She was a volunteer for Southeast Hospice. She worked at Lutheran Home and Chateau Girardeau.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Millersville.
Survivors include sons, Gary M. Cook of O'Fallon, Missouri, Kevin James (Donna) Brown of Perryville, Missouri, James Edward (Julie) Cordia of Perryville and Terry Brown; daughter, Peggy Sue (Jason) Cordia of Sedgewickville, Missouri; sisters, Wanda (Lee) Leimer of Cape Girardeau and Alice Rendleman of Cape Girardeau; brothers, Ray Underwood of Perryville, Dale (Pamela) Underwood of Cape Girardeau, Lee (Shearon) Underwood of Sercey, Arkansas, Earl Bartels of Cape Girardeau and Elvis Underwood of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ivan Underwood and Bob Bartels; sisters, Lillie Lafferty, Lucille Conklin and Mildred Swoden; sister-in-law, Jerry Sue Underwood; infant sister; and three infant brothers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family for funeral expenses.
