Verna A. Gross of Cape Girardeau passed away on Monday, March 22, 1999 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Verna A. Gross of Cape Girardeau passed away on Monday, March 22, 1999 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 4, 1932, the daughter of Arthur and Helen Bertling Kelpe.

In 1996 she retired as appointment receptionist at Regional Primary Care, earlier known as Seabaugh Clinic and Family Physicians. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church where she formerly was as member of the choir. She was a graduate of University High School and Hanover Lutheran Elementary School.

She is survived by a son, Chris A. Gross of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Robin L. Gross of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Donald Kelpe, Gerald Kelpe and James Kelpe, all of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Ruth Heuer of Cape Girardeau and Dorothy Gray of Canton, Ill.; two grandchildren, Dustin Gross and Cassie Gross, both of Cape Girardeau; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 1999 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, the Rev. Paul Short officiating. Internment will be at Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Kelpe, Mark Kelpe, Bruce Kelpe, Brian Kelpe, Matt Walhausen, Bruce Hobson, Bob Kinzer, J.D. Pratt and Jason Morrow with honorary pallbearers, Jim McLean, Raymond Johnson, Bill Roussel and Gary Schussler.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church Youth Fund or the Old Hanover Church Fund. Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn handled the arrangements.
