EAST PRAIRIE -- Verlon LeRoy Douglas, 69, of East Prairie, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994, at his home, following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Anniston, son of William Roy and Ella Furlong Douglas. He and Magdalene Grissom were married Sept. 20, 1989.

Douglas was a material handler with Lever Bros. Soap Co., and member of St. James General Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim and Jerry Douglas of East Prairie; two stepsons, Claude Keene of Edenton, N.C., Richard Keene of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three stepdaughters, Ruth Baker and Marjorie Keene of Flint, Mich., Judy Lucas of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Juanita Anderson of East Prairie, Margie Bisher of La Place, La.; two grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren, and seven great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home here after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Revs. Amos Johnson, George White and David Dowdy will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.
